Motivated by the current project of a trail through Waterville’s Pine Grove Cemetery, Véronique Plesch’s illustrated talk aims at providing historical context. Surveying millennia of funerary practices, from the ancient Egyptians through today, the lecture will stop at some salient moments in history and consider what we can learn from cemeteries.
Véronique Plesch is Professor of Art History and chair of the Art Department at Colby College, where she has taught since 1994. She is the author and editor of nine books and over 100 articles in English, French, Italian, and Spanish.
